Masculinities, Practices for Undoing Patriarchy
November 3 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
A half day workshop for male-identifying folk led by Lama Rod Owens to explore and deepen practices for undoing patriarchy.
Patriarchy is a social system that privileges men with power. With that power comes the requirement to dominate others in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social superiority, property control, and sexual supremacy over women. Men do not volunteer for patriarchy; they are born into it and subjected to masculinities dictated by patriarchy. An increasing number of folk identifying as male are challenging the dictates of patriarchy, deconstructing toxic masculinities, and constructing more mindful, purposeful, and ethical masculine identities.
In this half day workshop, male-identifying folk will explore our relationships with patriarchy and masculinity to provide ourselves opportunities to live more intentionally. We will not simply participate in and reproduce the dictates of patriarchy. We will co-construct masculinities that are:
- more supportive to those who identify as male,
- masculinities that support a more ethical relationship to the earth and fellow living beings, and
- masculinities that do not diminish the identities or roles of anyone identifying as female, nonbinary or nonmasculine.
There is no pre-registration required and is a dana (donation) based event.
